Botanical sources :
– Polygonum cuspidatum- is an herb that has become popular since it is a rich source of resveratrol. The official name of Polygonum cuspidatum- is Japanese knotweed but it is also known as Mexican bamboo, and Japanese polygonum.
– Vitis viniferin L., is a plant with high content of anthocyanins (Proanthocyanidins) and polyphenols(resveratrol, etc.). Resveratrol is extracted from the skin.
Indications and Uses:
Resveratrol, marketed as a nutritional supplement, is typically an extract of Polygonum cuspidatum. Such an extract contains both cis-and trans-resveratrol, usually trans.
Studies suggest that resveratrol has anti-atherosclerotic activity and that it might have some immune-stimulating and anti-cancer effects. Functional food products containing resveratrol are being developed.
